Preparing course on New Media & Public Communication

For me, one of the joys of academic life is the opportunity to create new courses. I am currently working on a new course, called "New Media & Public Communication," which will be offered this semester as part of Butler's Social World requirement in the Core Curriculum. First, we are going to consider the rights and responsibilities of citizens and consumers when dealing with public communication. Then we are going to tour the various forms of new social media, including blogs, Twitter, wikis, Facebook, Digg and more. We will also talk about theory and research as we go along. The books we are going to use are the journalism staple, "The Elements of Journalism," by Kovach and Rosenstiel, and Levinson's currently current book, "New New Media." Will keep everyone posted on progress!
