As the IAMCR conference in Braga, Portugal, is coming to a close, a few notes:
The Gender & Communication Section offered several interesting presentations as well as a fun dinner attended by about 30 members. One of the highlights was the panel on the Global Media Monitoring Project, with participants from various countries reporting back on their findings. I also especially enjoyed papers presented by Louise North (Gender and Journalism Education in Australia), a Nordic panel on challenges to gender equality in newsrooms, Kaitlynn Mendes (representations of feminism), Eva Berger (visual portrayel of female soldiers), and the panel on Gender, HIV/AIDS and the media. And as always, it is great to meet old and new colleagues. Next year IAMCR meets in Istanbul.
A happy group at the conference dinner, Bom Jesus
