New UN Agency for Women looks promising

The new UN agency for women called UN Women seems to be a step forward, but the proof is in the pudding. The UN plays such an important role globally with regard to women's rights but yet, its work is dispersed and watered down. A few years ago, with the introduction of a new journalism curriculum by Unesco at the World Journalism Education Conference in Singapore, the one area of study that was almost completely absent was gender studies. In my experiences at the UN, it was quite confusing to figure out what the different offices for women were and how they differed from each other (Unifem, Division for the Advancement of Women, INStraw, etc.) See article from Human Rights Watch.
