Malalai Joya's Lone Voice

Thanks to a great recommendation by Norwegian scholar Elisabeth Eide, I am currently reading Malalai Joya's book, A Woman among Warlords. Most books on Afghanistan don't provide up-to-date information about what has happened after October 2001. Joya carefully documents her experiences as a female member of the Loya Jirga and her struggles to oust warlords from the new government.

In related news, the debate about the "liberation" of Afghan women continues. From Ms. Magazine.
